Lady in the Water

A slightly more whimsical fairytale/fable/lullaby movie with a unique flavor. I wouldn’t call it child friendly but it’s not exactly high-brow. It’s simply¬† a fun movie to watch and very entertaining. A landlord discovers a woman from another world and finds out how connected their realities really are. It also has tree-monkeys and giant birds. That’s made of win.

M Night has had some shitty movies. This isn’t one of them. I like to think he has two great films and the other is not the Sixth Sense; despite it’s rampaging success. Unbreakable is the first good super-hero movie. The only think better than the acting is the camera work. M Night uses several upside down camera shots to show “epiphanies” or understanding. To represent the character having a new perspective on things. Unlike his more recent movies (meh..) this one was probably one of my favorites and sadly the least recognized.

The atmosphere is almost stoic, cold, apathetic. A husk of a human living underneath his potential as it rots him to a person so distant he is almost removed from the rest of society by attempting to be a part of it.
